Don’t want to wait for a movie or TV show torrent to download? There’s an app called Popcorn Time, a Netflix-like alternative, that you can use to stream torrent files for free. Read more for my thoughts on it and a tutorial on how to use it.
Popcorn Time Review
First off, Popcorn Time is available on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux (32 and 64-bit) as well as Android phones/tablets, and iOS devices. It is being supported on all major platforms.
This project was open-source and has since branched out to this application and getpopcornti.me (which is no longer being developed). This review covers the Popcorn Time application hosted on popcorn-time.to which is currently being supported. Here is information on people dissing this new program after the last one was shut down, saying it wasn’t official. Popcorn-time.to frankly saved the project from not being developed on anymore.
So this is how the interface looks right now as of beta 3.1:
In my opinion it looks really nice both on computers and android. You can sort movies by a bunch of genres and watch movies as well as TV shows. Some TV shows do not have the links to the torrents included but I’m sure they will be included in the future.
The streaming quality is superb. Although it is sometimes slow depending on the torrent you are streaming and how many seeders it has. You can choose from high-definition resolutions such as 720p and 1080p and they both look really nice. The audio quality is as well, It’s just as if you downloaded the torrent but less waiting.
As with anything, use this program at your own risk. If it is illegal to download torrents in your country, I would take the necessary precautions. Either way, feel free to try this program out at your own risk. I personally recommend it and find it very useful. Hopefully it becomes more stable in the future and it only improves from here on out. Check out the download links below:
